Qingming festival, also known as Tomb Sweeping Day, falls on April 5, is a time to remember and honor ancestors, in most part of China, to visit and sweep graves and burial grounds for deceased. It’s originates from “Hanshi Day” – means “Days of cold food only” – 2000 years ago, a special occasion in honor of Jiezitui for his death in fire due to loyalty to his master and indifference for fame and fortune.

The Museum of Folklore in Baoji area.

The Museum of Folklore in Baoji area opened on 19th this month. It’s situated where the Bronze Museum formerly locates, which has been removed into other place.

Baoji area is one of the major cradles of China’s ancient civilization. Yandi emperor, a mythological figure, taught farmers how to cultivate crops here 4000 years ago, which is considered the origin of Chinese agriculture, and Yandi himself, is viewed as an ancestor of Chinese people, along with Huangdi, – that’s why the Chinese people always call themselves as the descendants of the Yan and Huang emperors.

Ranghuo sausage.

“Ranghuo” is a commonly-used dialect vocabulary in this region, for something which is very soft and pliable, and if applied to describe personality, that person must be very agreeable, kind and easy to approach, so you could image naturally how the quality and the mouth feel of this local food  would be when this adjective introduced as its name.

Gedamian noodle.

This local food in Sanyuan county has a proper name – Gedamian, Geda, a typical colloquial expression in this region for “knot” or “lump”, describing  accurately the appearance of this noodle.

It’s pre-cooked, could be eaten directly without heating up, – simply mixed with diced meat, exactly like the spaghetti from Italy, – very tasty for some. Or just pour them into the hot sour soup, forming a bowl of steaming noodle, – my preferred way.
